Before Your Repair: Data Backup Guide
Your data is important. While we take care during every repair, data loss can occur depending on the issue, device condition, or repair process.
We strongly recommend backing up your device before service.
1. Backing Up Your Device
Below are general backup options based on device type:
- Computers & Laptops
- Windows (PC):
- Cloud: Search "Windows Backup" in your Start menu. Sign in to your Microsoft account to sync your folders to OneDrive.
- Physical: Plug in an external drive and use File History (Settings > Update & Security > Backup) to copy your entire system.
- Macs:
- Connect an external drive and use the built-in Time Machine (Apple Menu > System Settings > General).
- Alternatively, ensure your Desktop and Documents folders are syncing to iCloud.
- Gaming Consoles
- PlayStation (PS4/PS5):
- Cloud: If you have PlayStation Plus, your saves sync automatically to the cloud.
- Physical: For a manual backup, insert a USB drive and go to (Settings > System > Back Up > Restore).
- Xbox:
- Cloud saves are automatic and free for everyone-just ensure your console was connected to the internet while you were playing.
- Nintendo Switch:
- Requires a Nintendo Switch Online subscription for cloud saves (System Settings > Data Management > Save Data Cloud).
- Note: Some titles such as Pokémon, do not support cloud saves.
- Steam Deck:
- Most games use Steam Cloud. For Manual backups of non-steam files, right click the game in your library > Properties > Installed Files > Backup game files.
- Manual backups available through game properties.
2. If Your Device Is Not Working
If your device does not power on, standard backups may not be possible.
Data recovery may still be an option depending on the device and the condition of the device.
3. Backup Assistance
We offer optional data backup assistance on most devices prior to repair when possible. This must be requested at intake.
4. Data Responsibility
Customers are responsible for backing up their own data prior to service.
We are not responsible for data loss, missing files, or corrupted data during repair.
Disclaimer: These backup steps are provided as a general guide only. Every device is different, and software updates can change how these processes work. One Stop Electronics Repair Shop LLC is not responsible for the success or failure of your personal backups. We are simply sharing the common methods recommended by the manufacturers.
